The EEC is managed by the Western Australian Electoral Commission and operates out of The Constitutional Centre of Western Australia's buildings in West Perth. Its broad aim is to increase the community's understanding of electoral processes at all levels of government and to foster greater participation in those processes.
The Centre offers a range of services and educational programs catering for primary and secondary school students through to adult education classes and wider community groups.
The main focus of the EEC is the electoral systems of the three levels of government - Federal, State and Local. Particular attention is devoted to the preferential system of voting used in State and Commonwealth Parliamentary elections and 'first past the post' voting used in local government elections. A broad range of topics and issues are covered by Centre displays and presentations can be tailored to concentrate on particular topics of interest to individual groups.
External Visits by EEC Staff
Centre staff can also visit venues across the Perth Metropolitan Area and country WA to deliver presentations to service clubs & community groups, school groups and adult education classes. Country visits are organised well in advance in order to maximise the number of groups that can be included in the program.
Staff also regularly assist schools with the conduct of their Student Council elections. Such assistance may vary from printing ballot papers to actually running the election and supervising the count.
