Elector
A person whose name appears on the roll as eligible to vote for State, Federal or Local Government elections.
Electoral Act
The Act of Parliament that stipulates statutory requirements for the conduct of a parliamentary election.
Electoral Commissioner
In Western Australia this is the independent officer appointed by the Governor with the responsibility for the proper conduct of Parliamentary, Local Government and other statutory elections.
Electoral Roll
A list of names and addresses of electors entitled to vote in an election or referendum. Used in certain circumstances to mark the names of electors. Is electronically scannable. In the past, referred to as the Certified List. (See also List)
Electorate
The defined area (which may be the State District or Region) and the people within in it who are eligible to vote.

Eligibility (State)
A person is eligible to enrol and vote for State and Federal elections when they are 18 years of age and an Australian citizen, subject to residency qualifications. An elector is eligible to enrol at a new address in a different electoral district after one month's residence, and is required to complete an Electoral Enrolment form within 21 days of this. Some British subjects who were enrolled immediately prior to 26 January 1984 may also be eligible to vote.
Enrolment
The act of having a person's name added to the list of electors entitled to vote.
Exhausted Vote
A vote which has reached the stage where no further preferences can be distributed when distributing preferences.
